Whether organic is better than conventionally grown food or not is a discussion that we do not want to start here. We just want to point out that the fine Oude Kriek from 3 Fonteinen is available in both a conventional and an organic version. Both taste wonderful - the choice is entirely yours.
The brewery's very first organic-certified Oude Kriek is made from 100% organic ingredients, most of which are also regional. The grain was grown by the brewery's own Cereal Collective and about half of the hops grew on Belgian soil. The base is a lambic that was put together from different brews: six different lambics from three wooden barrels were matured for different lengths of time before they were married to create a single brew. To conjure up the full cherry flavor in the beer, the lambic was then stored on a truckload of fresh fruit for an incredible eleven months. There are about 350 grams of cherries for one liter of Oude Kriek.
The deep red fruits run like a delicious thread through the beer and are reflected in the ruby red color, the cherry scent and the wonderful summery aroma. The Oude Kriek Bio tastes of freshly harvested cherries, fine red wine, spicy oak, floral hops, tangy lemon, leather and dark grapes.
