The Sorachi Ace hop variety is a plant that combines contradictions. The taste profile of the green gold is split into two very different components: on the one hand, the Japanese variety delivers a wide range of different herbal notes, but on the other hand, the cones are also extremely fruity. Sorachi Ace adds hints of coriander, mint, dill and other herbs to brews, but can also taste of citrus fruits and lychee.
The De Molen brewery in the Netherlands has a great fascination for all kinds of oxymora and is therefore also a fan of Sorachi Ace. This special hop variety is the star in their Japanese Blond Fruit & Kruid. The title of the beer combines both sides of the hop and its aroma completes the balancing act perfectly: Fruit & Kruid combines woody herbal notes with a juicy fruit kick.
The Belgian-Japanese blond flows into the glass in a bright sunny yellow and is crowned with a cap of fluffy, white foam. A bouquet of floral, fruity, herbal and citrus aromas rises into the nose and awakens thirst. The first sip brings a composition of lychee, melon, peach and forest herbs to the tongue. Fruit & Kruid skilfully brings mild sweetness, moderate bitterness, juicy fruit and tart herbs into a delicious balance.
