The Blond is a Belgian classic that enchants with spicy yeast, malty fullness and a soft mouthfeel. Most breweries in Belgium and the Netherlands have a variant of it in their range, including Uiltje from Haarlem. The hop-crazy exceptional brewers have put their very own stamp on the style by combining it with two expressive hop varieties.
The brew has a good 6.0% alcohol content and borrows its sunny yellow color and velvety texture from three types of malt. In addition to Pilsner, Vienna and Munich malt, the team brewed huge amounts of hops: the Saaz and Magnum varieties ensure a fruity explosion of flavor on the tongue and also contribute a gentle bitterness. Uiltjes Blond exudes an enticing scent of juicy fruit, warm spices and a hint of freshly mown grass. The first sip follows the same direction and unfolds a symphony of tropical fruit, tangy citrus notes, dried fruit and herbs on the tongue. Spicy yeast and light malt skilfully round off the aroma.
Although the hops play a secondary role in the traditional blond beer, they are clearly the focus of this interpretation and form a tasty brew that goes perfectly with hearty dishes. Our favorite: classic tarte flambée based on the Alsatian model with crème fraîche, onions and smoked bacon.
