Uiltje's Black in Time Machine combines two themes that we find interesting: Black India Pale Ales and time travel. While forays through the eras of history have so far only been possible in theory and require complicated calculations, physical assumptions and a fair amount of imagination, the Black IPA is a simple pleasure that is accessible to anyone who is interested and (ideally) 18 years old. The relatively young beer style is - depending on who you ask - a malt-focused IPA or an extremely hoppy dark beer. Uiltje has a lot of experience in the field and positions herself on the side of the hopheads with Black in Time Machine: her version of the dark IPA contains seven different types of hops in addition to strongly roasted malt.
Living up to its name, Uiltjes Black IPA flows into the glass in the color of freshly brewed coffee and is adorned with a lush crown of dense, hazelnut-brown foam. The aroma and taste reveal strong roasted aromas, which combine with intense espresso notes, hints of melting chocolate and undertones of creamy caramel as the beer progresses. The hop varieties Columbus, Chinook, Mosaic DynaBoost, Nelson Sauvin, Talus, Maui Nelson and Amarillo CGX contribute an impressive 45 bitter units and a tangy citrus variety that goes excellently with the dark aroma of the malt.
