For a long time, grapefruit had a bad reputation. The sour citrus fruit is bitter, a little bit tart and nobody could do anything with it. The grapefruit was associated with diets and children feared the very healthy but unusual tasting juice of the fruit. Today the image has changed: the grapefruit is celebrated for its high vitamin content, hipsters eat it for breakfast and there are countless recipes that elicit its fine aroma from the grapefruit.
The brewers have also discovered the citrus fruit for themselves. With its tartness, fruity acidity and elegant bitterness, the grapefruit goes perfectly with the aroma palette of beer and brings freshness and a touch of the exotic into play. The Irish brewery Rye River Brewing has come up with a delicious beer with the spherical fruit: Lil ’Twist is Rye River’s interpretation of a grapefruit IPA and absolutely delicious.
The tasty IPA flows into the glass in a bright straw yellow and smells of freshly harvested green hop cones and the juice of just squeezed pink grapefruit. The taste follows the olfactory first impression on the foot and refreshes the palate with juicy notes of various citrus fruits. The aroma of pink grapefruit is the most dominant and harmonizes wonderfully with the clear hop notes. With a gentle 3.8% alcohol content, Lil ’Twist is the perfect refreshment for in between meals.
