Even though muffins aren’t as popular as they were ten years ago, we still love them. A fluffy little cake fresh from the oven with coffee – delicious! We love blueberry muffins, chocolate-flavored versions, or fancy red velvet, and we’re happy when the local bakery has them on display. Or when one of our favorite creative breweries takes on the pastry and turns it into a delicious beer!
The French brewery Les Intenables is known for its unconventional craft beers with numerous special ingredients. The team isn’t afraid of change in the beer business and happily ignores the restrictions of the Bavarian Purity Law. Muffin Cassis is a tribute to the mini cake: The so-called Pastry Sour contains water, barley and wheat malt, yeast, and Barbe Rouge hops, as well as black currants and lactose.
The dark fruits bathe the brew in a wonderful burgundy berry hue and tint the foam pink. The malt duo creates a stable, delicately cloudy body and a velvety, smooth mouthfeel. Notes of ripe blackcurrant dominate the aroma and flavor. A hint of oven-fresh biscuit, creamy sweetness, and the fruity, fresh acidity of freshly harvested wild berries impressively round out the aromatic interplay.
