We associate Sicily with endless summer days, bright sunshine, rocky coastlines, colorful parasols, salt on our skin, crystal-clear, azure seas, octopus salad and Aperol Spritz for aperitifs, the scent of sunscreen—and oranges! The island at the southernmost tip of Italy has fertile soil and is covered in olive and orange groves. When you drive along the small country roads with the windows open in spring, the gentle breeze carries the wonderful scent of blossoming oranges into your car, and you can enjoy these juicy delicacies straight from the tree all year round. We love freshly squeezed orange juice over ice, and we’re not the only ones who pay homage to the spherical citrus fruit in sun-kissed orange: The Les Intenables brewery has a penchant for unusual beer ingredients and recently dedicated itself to the blood orange.
In their Fruited Sour Sicilian Blood, everything revolves around the fruit with the blood-red flesh. At first glance, you might not notice it in the old-gold brew with a white head, but the protagonist is revealed in the aroma. A robust nose of ripe citrus fruit opens the beer experience. And the taste is also dominated by the blood orange: Exuberant fruit aromas meet creamy, yogurt-like acidity and soft vanilla on the palate – an aromatically intense feast that transports us directly to Sicily!
