Dust is a vexed subject for many people. It collects in unsightly clusters under furniture and in the corners of the home, covers surfaces with a wafer-thin layer, makes us sneeze, and dances in the air like fresh snow when exposed to light. It triggers allergies, combines with grease in the kitchen to form a stubborn mass that’s difficult to scrub from tiles and the extractor hood, forces you to wear a mask when sawing and sanding, and, if stirred up roughly, sometimes even sets off the fire alarm. Dust is composed of small, solid particles made up of all sorts of unpleasant things like human dander or pollen, and is a Sisyphean task that’s impossible to escape.
The Moon Lark brewery proves that dust can also be a pleasant thing. Their latest creation, called Dust, isn’t an omnipresent nuisance, but rather a thoroughly enjoyable American Rye Pale Ale.
The densely clouded, juicy, and velvety-smooth brew is based on robust rye and cold-hopped with Centennial, Mosaic, and Sabro hops. A rich grain base with a taste of oven-fresh bread is complemented by a hop bouquet that combines citrus peel, grapefruit, tangerine, pine resin, and apricot with a subtly balanced bitterness.
