Alaska Forever is a West Coast Double IPA with a hefty 8.5% ABV and a truckload of hops. Since the major hop-growing regions of the United States are geographically closer to the West Coast, the IPAs from there are more hop-focused than the East Coast IPAs. West Coast IPAs are hoppy beers that usually taste super fruity and crisply bitter. Alaska Forever is no exception.
The beer from UJH Man's Brewery flows into the glass in an orange-red amber tone and forms a fine, white head of foam. A wonderfully sweet scent of tropical fruit, spicy pine resin and hoppy citrus notes fills the nose. A malty hint of caramel rounds off the olfactory aromatics. The initial taste reveals a fruity beer with a stable malt base. Pink grapefruit, juicy mandarin and tangy lime appear light-footed and playful on the tongue, while the hops also add a nice spice with the aroma of fine pine needles. The medium-weight body is supported by a lively carbonic acid, the 8.5% alcohol content is cleverly integrated into the diverse flavor nuances. The finish is strongly bitter and beautifully fruity.
Alaska Forever is a well-balanced West Coast DIPA that delights us with fruity sweetness, hoppy bitterness and malty smoothness.
