With their Märzen, the Grasser brewery from Huppendorf has resurrected a real classic: After having disappeared from the traditional brewery’s range for years, the brewers brewed their Märzen again for the first time in 2014 and hit the mark. The Huppendorfer Märzen inspires with a strong malt character and a generous amount of hops, which complements the malt with a balanced bitterness and a rich herbal note.
The Märzen is traditionally brewed in spring and pierced at the end of April. When earlier, due to the lack of cooling facilities, it was only possible to brew in the colder months of the year, the Märzen was one of the last beers that could be brewed before summer and was accordingly celebrated. Today we brew all year round, but we still celebrate Märzen!
The Huppendorfer spring classic is presented in a splendid copper red in the glass and crowns itself with a hand’s breadth of slightly tinted foam. An irresistible scent of toasted bread, caramelized malt and subtly fruity hops seduces you to take the first sip. This reveals a strong Märzen with subtly balanced aromas: full-bodied notes of roasted malt meet creamy caramel, dark cocoa and oven-fresh biscuits on the palate. The hops provide harmonious sounds of aromatic orange peel and tart herbs. The soft malt sweetness is balanced by a dry hop bitterness, a touch of smoke rounds off the play of aromas masterfully.
The Huppendorfer Märzen is a legend among its kind!
