As a rule, the recipes for beers come from master brewers. Nowadays, there are also sometimes collaborations with hobby brewers who provide their ideas and formulas. In the case of Holzkirchner Gold, the recipe comes from a priest. Alois Daisenberger developed the raw material composition for this brew in the 1920s. Alois was a priest and dreamed of running his own farm. When he became the clergyman of the Reichersbeuern community, this dream came true: In addition to the religious care of his flock, there were also actual sheep to herd. The Reichersbeuern rectory contained a farm, which Alois happily took over. And because Alois was a man of many talents, he also founded the cooperative brewery in Holzkirchen and two others.
Currently, the Holzkirchner Oberbräu belongs to the Kaltenberg Castle Brewery and Alois Erbe is honored with the Holzkirchner Gold, which is still brewed according to his recipe today.
True to its name, the Holzkirchner Gold flows into the glass in the color of liquid sunshine and carries a magnificent crown of solid foam on the crystal-clear body. On the nose, the beer presents itself as malty and entices you to try it with caramel notes. The taste is made up of sweet grain, strong spice, citrus hops and a moderate bitterness.
