One of the most popular and widely read works by the writer and lawyer Theodor Storm is "The Rider on the White Horse"—a symbol of the eternal struggle between humankind and nature. On the windswept North Sea coast, the dike reeve Hauke Haien defies the elements, driven by pride, intelligence, and a yearning for control. But nature remains invincible—and it is precisely this tension that the Wacken Brewery captures in its beery homage to this legendary tale: powerful, down-to-earth, and with a touch of drama.
Inspired by myths, rugged coastal air, and North German straightforwardness, the brewery has always been dedicated to the dark and mystical figures of the North. With the Schimmelradler, the Schimmelreiter (White Horse Rider) now receives a summery, refreshing sequel – a drink like a fresh July breeze gently caressing the lush green dike.
Schimmelradler is based on the characterful Schimmelreiter Pilsner, combining its spicy, hoppy soul with delicately sparkling lemonade. Golden yellow and slightly cloudy in the glass, it smells of ripe lemon, freshly cut grass, and a hint of hops. The taste is invigorating, combining a perfectly balanced sweetness with a subtle bitterness in the finish – a drink for long summer days, seaside holidays, and moments when we long for salt on our skin and sand between our toes. Refreshingly Nordic, honest, and down-to-earth.
