We like to call hops green gold. The aromatic flowers of the hop plant are a key element in the production of beer and give our favorite beverage its wonderful aroma. Malt should not be underestimated when it comes to flavor, but hops are the ingredient that gives brewers the most leeway.
The Bamberg horticulturist Kris Emmerling is a revolutionary when it comes to hops. Not only did he bring back hop cultivation, which had been extinct for more than a hundred years, to Bamberg, he also developed a process that makes it possible to produce smoked beer without smoked malt. With this patented hop, he caught the attention of the craft beer industry and brought a whole new smoke beer to the world. However, the head of Bamberg’s smallest brewery has a lot more aces up his sleeve: his range consists of artisanal, small-batch brewed beer specialties that combine the Franconian art of brewing with the young brewer’s fresh and unconventional ideas.
A classic in the Hopfengarten range is Hopfen Gold: The light lager comes in a brilliant, crystal-clear amber gold and is adorned with a veil of snow-white foam. An olfactory bouquet of gently roasted grain, freshly mown grass, herbs and lemony hops promises culinary delights. And Hopfen Hold delivers what it promises!
