Balcones is a whiskey distillery from the United States. Its story began in an old welding shop in Welco, Texas: the small team put together a distillery from all sorts of junk and began distilling the finest whiskey in 2009. Today, the fine spirits are appreciated all over the world for their mature and complex taste and the company has already received numerous awards for its work. The distillery’s good reputation has spread as far as Europe and also reached the De Molen brewery in the Netherlands. When the brewmasters were looking for suitable barrels for maturing their brewed products, they came across Balcones and hit the jackpot.
After a barley wine matured in whiskey barrels from Texas last year, there will also be an edition of it in 2024. The base brew is a barley wine with a powerful 11.4% alcohol content, which gains a wonderful spiciness and depth from the wooden barrel during storage.
At the end of the process, the result is a ruby-red shimmering drink in dark mahogany brown that smells and tastes of full-bodied malt, candied red fruits, creamy caramel, exquisite bourbon and exotic vanilla. De Molens Balcones Edition 2024 Barley Wine should be enjoyed at around 10 degrees and harmonizes wonderfully with ripe, flavorful cheese or rich desserts.
