Non-alcoholic and low-alcohol beer is a topic that divides the community of beer lovers: some strictly reject beer with an alcohol content of less than 4.5% and would rather forgo the barley juice altogether than reach for a non-alcoholic beer, while others are happy that they can drink beer even if they do without alcohol. In recent years, the gap has narrowed and this is not least thanks to the brewers who work tirelessly to create non-alcoholic beers that are in no way inferior to their conventional counterparts. A lot has happened in terms of technology in recent decades, and yeast strains have been discovered that produce only a very small amount of alcohol during fermentation. With these tricks, the impossible has been made possible: delicious non-alcoholic and low-alcohol beer.
The Dutch brewery Uiltje is taking part in this project and is contributing a successful brew with a tame 0.2% alcohol content. The low-alcohol version of their popular IPA Bird of Prey is a juicy brew that is brewed with four different types of hops. The cones give the India Pale Ale a rich taste that is made up of tropical notes, citrus fruit, grassy notes and a hint of pine resin. A clear, fresh bitterness rounds off the overall work of art impressively.
