Vineyards are a familiar concept to us all and can be found in every region of the world that has fertile soil and the right amount of sun and rain for grapevines. Breweries, on the other hand, are a relatively new phenomenon, likely only emerging since the rise of the craft beer movement. While a vineyard simply needs sunny slopes for grapevines, a brewery requires optimal growing conditions for grain and hops.
Austria's first beer estate, Wildshut, was established by Stiegl and is a paradise for both people and plants. Besides expansive fields where a variety of grains are cultivated, Wildshut boasts lush hop gardens, as well as its own malt house and roastery. Stiegl is the only brewery in Austria to malt its own grain. Even the brewing water is drawn from the estate's own well: the well on the estate provides excellent brewing water, the perfect foundation for exquisite beers.
