When you are out canoeing, kayaking or SUPing, travelling against the current requires much more strength than going with the flow. If you have the opportunity, you should head upstream first and save the more pleasant and easier journey for the way back. In a figurative sense, swimming against the current means going against the norm and finding your own way, forming your own opinion and not just going with the crowd.
Much more pleasant (and delicious!) than paddling against the current and defying the mainstream is Upstream from Rye River. The beer with the upstream-oriented name is a light, fluffy pale ale with a delicate 4.5% alcohol content and a subtly balanced body that brings soft malt and fruity hops into delicious harmony.
Rye River's Upstream Pale Ale flows into the glass in a delicately clouded amber gold and is crowned with a hand's breadth of white foam. The trio of citrus fruit, light grain and subtle caramel can be found in the aroma and develops further on the palate: the aroma of freshly grated lemon peel is accompanied by toasted yeast plait, grass clippings, creamy honey, toffee, grapefruit and spicy pine resin. The brew is fresh, fruity and with 37 bitter units it is crisply bitter.
