Bière d’Hiver is a festival beer from Blue Coast that is released every year around winter and Christmas. Its label awakens a longing for snowy mountains and skiing holidays. A snow-white landscape stretches out against a sapphire-blue sky, with a sleek skier in a red outfit. He races down the hill on fast runners, his ski poles pointing straight up into the sky. The mountain calls us with promises of powder snow, pure air, sunshine and a cozy snack on the mountain pasture.
Until the time finally comes and we can strap on the boards, we console ourselves with the fine beer that lies behind this wonderful dream scenario: Blue Coasts Bière d’Hiver is a winter ale that, thanks to two extra ingredients, is a little reminiscent of a Belgian Wit. The tasty brew is seasoned with coriander seeds and orange peel. But that’s where the similarities end, because unlike the Wit, Bière d’Hiver flows into the glass in the color of freshly brewed espresso. A coarse-pored crown of hazelnut-brown foam sits on the opaque body and smells wonderfully spicy and fruity. The organic beer brings a delicious harmony of dark malt, candied orange peel and a hint of coriander into the glass.
Bière d’Hiver is an unusual winter beer that tastes just as good in the cabin as it does on the sofa at home.
