Hannibal is a powerful name originating from the language of the ancient Phoenicians. Phoenician civilization, rooted in the eastern Mediterranean, flourished in antiquity. Hannibal is composed of two parts and is an homage to the Phoenician god Baal. Perhaps the most legendary bearer of this name is Hannibal Barca, a Carthaginian general who crossed the Alps with a herd of elephants to fight against Rome in the Second Punic War. Of course, some of you may also be familiar with Hannibal Lecter. This fictional character, the brainchild of the brilliant Thomas Harris, sends a delicious shiver down our spines.
The third beer bearing this name that we’d like to introduce is truly delicious: Hannibal, brewed by Anderson’s Brewery. This majestic Imperial Stout was one of the Estonian team’s first brews and has recently been revived. This potent beer boasts a robust 10.5% ABV and a sensual interplay of aromas, including powerful roasted notes, indulgent chocolate, and crisp, bitter coffee.
Hannibal pours into the glass a mysterious midnight black, crowned with an ivory-colored head. A bouquet of dark fruits, cocoa, mocha, and bourbon wafts from the glass. The taste lives up to the initial olfactory impression, flooding the palate with melt-in-the-mouth chocolate, espresso, prunes, and bitter roasted notes. A beer that truly lives up to its distinguished name!
