Applehoff is Anderson’s take on apple pie. Anderson’s isn’t a bakery, though, but a brewery. The team from Estonia loves Grandma’s homemade apple pie and has created a beer-based tribute to the delightful treat. And because more apple pie is always better, the men and women in the brewhouse in Tartu have crafted an even more intense version of their crowd-pleaser.
Applehoff Calvados BA 2023 takes the original Calvados and, after the brewing process is complete, matures it in wooden barrels that previously held Calvados. This fruit brandy, made from cider, comes from Normandy, France, and brings an exquisite apple aroma, which it imparts to the beer during maturation. The result is apple pie with a delicious extra kick of Calvados.
The barrel-aged brew pours a clear, coppery gold into the glass, adorned with a delicate veil of foam. An irresistible aroma of cinnamon, baked apples, and cider rises to the nose, elegantly enticing the first sip. On the palate, the beer delivers everything the aroma promises: crumbly apple tart meets warm spices like vanilla and cinnamon, fruity acidity, creamy malt, and vibrant Calvados. The fiery 10% alcohol rounds off this exquisite experience, contributing a warmth that spreads pleasantly throughout body and mind.
