Croatia is a land of many charms. The landscape boasts high mountains, rugged rock formations, dense, ancient forests, expansive meadows, and a magnificent coastline. Cold, crystal-clear waters in every shade of blue invite you to swim, while the vibrant flora and fauna beneath the surface beckon snorkelers and divers. The sea yields fresh delicacies that taste best when grilled with zucchini, eggplant, rosemary, and olive oil. And for dessert, sweet figs straight from the tree and sun-ripened citrus fruits await, ripening gradually throughout the winter and packed with vitamin C to combat colds and low spirits. The tangerines, which grow and thrive in virtually every garden here, are especially delicious.

This is also the conclusion reached by the Anderson’s and Mlinarica breweries when creating their collaborative brew. Anderson’s hails from icy Estonia, while Mlinarica is based in Croatia. Their joint creation used the juice and peel of a staggering 200 kilograms of freshly harvested mandarins.

The result is Zesty Bastard, an intensely citrusy Hazy India Pale Ale, refined with Nectaron and Riwaka hops. Mandarin dominates the aroma and flavor, while the hops contribute harmonious notes of tropical fruit, gentle herbs, and a light bitterness. A refreshing, easy-drinking delight!
