The oldest conflict in humanity is probably that between father and son.
There is a very personal story behind this beer creation. David Hertl, the head and heart behind the Hertl brewery, actually comes from a winemaking family. His father Bernd Hertl is a winemaker with heart and soul and wanted his son to also learn the craft. The boy was introduced to grapes at an early age, but his enthusiasm for oenology didn't really develop. No stone was left unturned, but stubborn David could not be convinced. In order to encourage him to continue a family business, the boy was sent along with his grandfather. But David didn’t want to become an electrician either. However, while visiting a brewery, David discovered his great interest in the craft of brewing. The family breathed a sigh of relief, David had found his passion!
And because the Hertls don't hold grudges, Bernd gave up his winemaking business at short notice and has been actively supporting David in Franconia's smallest brewery since day one. This family saga could have ended badly, but the Hertls made the best of it and are now celebrating their wide-ranging interests with a joint creation. Vater & Sohn is a beer that combines the craft of brewing and winemaking: a young stout is fermented with a young Domina wine.
The result is a fantastic beer that is available in a sample size of 0.33l and a gourmet size of 0.75l .
