Gose and Bock beer are theoretically at opposite ends of the beer spectrum: while Gose is a light, fresh beer with fruity acidity and spicy herbal notes, Bock beer generally shines with full malt, voluminous body and soft sweetness. Ritterguts Gose is not put off by these contrasts and has – as far as we know – developed the first and only Gosebock in the world. The feat is called Bärentöter and is an incredibly elegant mixture of playful Gose and flattering Bock beer.
The basis of this improbable brew is an incredible six different types of malt, which were spun with coriander seeds, freshly grated orange zest, salt and exotic Ceylon cinnamon to create an incomparable, lactic acid fermented beer. This showpiece brings a respectable 6.6% alcohol content to the table and presents itself in a ruby red shimmering copper tone with an ivory-colored head. An interesting mixture of cinnamon, funky yeast, red fruits, earthy herbs and toffee rises to the nose and entices you to take the first sip. The first sip reveals a subtly balanced body with fruity sweetness, fresh acidity and velvety grain notes. A bouquet of malt, coriander, cherries, tenderly melting, salty caramel, oven-fresh bread, strong lactic acid and roasted aromas enchants the palate and creates a unique taste experience.
Rittergut’s Bärentöter is the right choice for sour beer fans and all those who appreciate unconventional brews.
