We Franconians are known for our rough charm and our gruff directness. We are not a people of many words and grunts, grumbles and shrugs are just as much part of our vocabulary as a whole range of dialect-specific expressions and concepts. We are more likely to be taken to heart at second glance.
A gem of Bamberg is probably the shortest sentence in the world with which you can actually achieve something. When you’re sitting in the cozy tavern or in the shady cellar of the Mahrs Bräu, two vowels are enough to order a beer. You say "a U" and you immediately get the fine untapped piece in front of you. This specialty of the cathedral city has achieved real cult status over the past few decades and is one of the most popular beers in the city and in the country.
The untapped, unfiltered, bottom-fermented beer comes in a coppery shimmering amber tone and has a creamy ivory crown on the naturally cloudy body. Spicy yeast, caramel and hints of citrus fill the air and make you thirsty for a drink. This reveals a smooth mouthfeel that caresses the tongue with notes of creamy blossom honey, toffee, toasted grain, toast, yeasty spice and fresh citrus. The final touch is provided by a tart, herbal hop bitterness that elegantly rounds off the tasty beer enjoyment.
A Bamberg favorite for a reason!
