Slightly disturbing labels are a specialty of Blech.Brut. With the help of artificial intelligence and ingenious designers, the Bamberg brewery conjures up cans that can be visually uncomfortable and challenging. Among these sometimes monstrous creations there are geometric patterns and futuristic-looking images that could be scenes from sci-fi films, but our eyes always wander back to the gnarled figures that are composed of oversized hands in retro clothing.
One of these figures with a huge, cyclopean eye and a cozy knitted sweater adorns the collaboration brew from Blech.Brut and the Swedish brewery Brewski. The brew is called Weird Whimsy and is a triple New England IPA with a voluminous 9.5% alcohol content. The twists are masterfully integrated into a flavor profile that consists of soft grain notes and tropical hops. A trio of different malts conjure up hints of oven-fresh oat biscuits on the tongue, while the hops taste of ripe tropical fruits and sunny citrus fruit. Weird Whimsy is presented in an opaque old gold in the glass and is decorated with a fleeting crown of white foam. The cherry on the cake is the wonderfully grippy, creamy texture that gives the brew body and caresses the tongue like liquid silk.
The name and design of this creation may be strange, whimsical or odd, but the beer is a delight!
