Saint Boniface was born in the seventh century AD and dedicated his life to spreading the Christian faith. He worked as a missionary and played a major role in the development of Christianity. He also founded the monastery in Fulda, making him a key figure in the city’s history. He placed the Hessian city at the center of Christian life. His influence endured for centuries and is still felt today – and can even be tasted: The Heurich brewery from his hometown of Fulda has dedicated a whole series of beers to the saint.
Among the delicious monuments is also a seasonal treat. The St. Bonifatius Winter Beer is a golden Märzen that, thanks to a slightly higher alcohol content, is particularly welcome on bitterly cold January days.
The robust brew pours into the glass in a shimmering copper-red amber hue, crowned with a dense, ivory-colored head. A wintry aroma of roasted chestnuts and baked apples rises to the nose, enticing the palate. The taste unfolds with a delightful spiciness, caressing the palate with soft malt and bitter hops. Heurich’s St. Bonifatius Winter Beer is a full-bodied pleasure that its namesake would surely have enjoyed!
