A certain penchant for perfectionism is a trait shared by many brewmasters. A beer can never be good enough, and the hardworking men and women in the brewhouses work tirelessly day after day to present their customers with the most delicious brews. At Innis & Gunn, too, they always strive for the very best: The team from the Scottish capital, Edinburgh, holds itself to the highest standards and sees potential even after the beer has been brewed and aged. To give their creations the finishing touch, some batches are transferred to wooden casks and matured after the brewing process is complete.
This is also true of their newest Oatmeal Stout, which is called Irish Whiskey Cask and was aged in just such casks. The casks, in which the finest Irish whiskey previously matured, impart a wonderfully deep, full-bodied aroma to the beer. The base is a creamy Scottish stout made from roasted barley and oat malt. This coffee-brown specialty brings with it delicate roasted aromas, notes of freshly brewed espresso, and hints of smooth, melting dark chocolate. The whiskey cask delivers harmonious tones of fine spirit and exotic vanilla, while the Hercules hop variety contributes a touch of floral spice.
Irish Whiskey Cask is a masterful brew, crafted with meticulous attention to detail and great expertise from start to finish.
