Deconstructed Barrel is a barrel-aged tropical stout from Siren Brewery and the third installment in their Caribbean Chocolate Cake Series. This series of exquisite dark beers revolves entirely around chocolate. In collaboration with the chocolate shop Willie’s Cacao, the finest beans were selected and then aged on bourbon-soaked barrel staves. The expert also recommended using not only the roasted cacao nibs but also the skin of the bean. While typically omitted in chocolate production, the skin intensifies the chocolatey aroma in the beer. Lactose in the recipe lends the brew a creamy, silky sweetness, while cypress wood contributes a warm spiciness.
Sirens Deconstructed Barrel Caribbean Chocolate Cake Tropical Stout packs a fiery 8.4% alcohol by volume and presents itself in the darkest shade of mahogany. A crown of dense, creamy, hazelnut-brown foam sits atop, releasing an intoxicating aroma of rich chocolate cake. The palate offers a similar experience: rich cocoa meets creamy caramel, robust mocha, toasted grains, warm spices, and a luxurious bourbon note.
Siren’s beer-based dessert captivates with its complex depth, rich aroma, and velvety mouthfeel. It can be served as the perfect ending to a lovely dinner, but it also pairs wonderfully with dessert.
