After Het Anker's first whiskey-flavored beer was a huge success in 2015, the decision was made to include the brew in their core range. Their Gouden Carolus Whiskey Infused has received a number of prestigious awards and was even named the world's best liquor-flavored beer at one point. Today, the creation is one of the brewery's flagship products and is an indispensable part of their selection.
The basis is the Gouden Carolus Imperial Dark, a strong, dark beer that has been given a rich flavor kick with an infusion of Gouden Carolus Single Malt Whiskey. Because the whiskey is also distilled in-house at Het Anker, the team has full control over the aroma and can shape it exactly to their liking by maturing it in the barrel. The special thing about the spirit used is that it is distilled from the malt mash of the Gouden Carolus Tripel. It is then matured in bourbon barrels and specially made oak barrels. The double maturation creates an incomparable depth of flavor, which is also reflected in Gouden Carolus Whiskey Infused: The coffee-black beer with the ivory-colored foam smells and tastes of fine bourbon, vanilla, oak wood and delicately melting chocolate. Notes of overripe summer fruits, good red wine and creamy caramel as well as a fiery 11.7% alcohol content complete the impressive profile.
Het Ankers Gouden Carolus Whiskey Infused is a drink for special moments and should be served at around ten to twelve degrees for optimal flavor development.
