After master brewer Andreas Gänstaller had to hang up his mash paddle for health reasons, another master brewer plucked up the courage to take over the hallowed halls. As one of the last breweries in Franconia, the Gänstaller Brewery in Schnaid still has a traditional, fully functional cooling vessel—such a treasure must be preserved and utilized!
David Hertl, from the brewery of the same name, which was already bursting at the seams before the takeover, came to the rescue. Now David and his team can expand and brew their fine creations beyond the small brewery in Thüngfeld. Head brewer of the new brewery is Carsten Mümmler, whom David welcomes to the Hertl brewing family with his own beer.
Brewer Carsten's beer is a very special one: The creation is called Kveik Fake Lager, and it holds a surprise. Although lager is technically a bottom-fermented beer, this one is brewed with a top-fermenting yeast strain and top-fermenting brewing temperatures. The end result is still a lager. This unconventional lager gets its fruity character from dry hopping with Citra. The beer brings a delicious composition of robust grain, spicy and slightly sour yeast, creamy caramel, grassy hops, herbs, and juicy fruit to your glass.
We drink to you, brewer Carsten!
