The small town of Forchheim lies in the middle between the World Heritage Site of Bamberg and the metropolis of Nuremberg. Two trout adorn the commune's coat of arms, as it was previously assumed that the name of the city was based on the Old High German term for trout. This level of knowledge is now outdated, but the coat of arms has remained. Forchheim is located at the gateway to Franconian Switzerland and is surrounded by idyllic nature and three different rivers. The prehistory of the city goes back to the fifth millennium BC, the first documentary mention took place almost 1220 years ago. On the occasion of the 1200th anniversary in 2005, Forchheim organized a big party. Concerts, performances and all sorts of other events were held, there was also a special postage stamp from the post office and all the local inns and breweries came up with special delicacies for the festive occasion.
The Josef Greif brewery contributed a festival beer. The malty culinary delight with creamy caramel notes and delicate hop bitterness was so well received that it was included in the core range and is still brewed today. The balanced beer specialty brings a pleasant 5.5% alcohol content into the glass and captivates with a harmony of soft sweetness, robust spiciness and fresh bitterness.
