Bockbier is a strong, often dark beer that originated in Bavaria. It is a subspecies of lager and is typically brewed in the fall or winter. Bock beers have a higher alcohol content than conventional lagers and their taste is malty with a light roasted note and spicy sweetness. Because there are festive occasions not only in the cold season, bock beer is also brewed in spring and during Lent. A special subtype of the style is the Maibock, which is brewed and served just in time for the May dance. Due to their intense aroma, bock beers are particularly suitable as an accompaniment to hearty dishes and sweet desserts. Their character goes well with chocolate and nuts, and they are also a popular choice with cheese and sausage platters.
A fine bock beer with a moderate alcohol content of 6.6% was penned by Stefan Pfister. His interpretation is deep black and comes with a hazelnut-brown foam crown. The dark beauty scores with a velvety-soft mouthfeel and a full-bodied body. Big notes of malt, strong roasted aromas, the creamy sweetness and hints of red fruits make the bock beer a real treat for the palate.
