Landsknecht is not only a widespread surname in many parts of Germany and the title of a foot soldier from the 15th and 16th centuries, but also the name of a wonderful beer creation from the princely Wallerstein brewery.
The brewery, under the patronage of Hereditary Prince Carl-Eugen zu Oettingen-Wallerstein, boasts a down-to-earth core range featuring many favorites from classic Bavarian and German brewing. A traditional Kellerbier, of course, is a must in such a lineup. The Landsknecht is exactly that: a handcrafted, dark brew that delights more than just us with its smooth character and subtly balanced flavors. This brew blew the judges of the renowned "European Beer Star" competition away and was named Europe's best dark German-style Kellerbier in 2024.
The Trophy Hunter flows into the glass in a rust-red, shimmering mahogany color and piles up a creamy crown of hazelnut-brown foam. The unfiltered beverage has a tantalizing aroma of rich chocolate, roasted grain, and toffee. The tasting follows the same pattern, delighting with a harmony of sweet, grainy grain, melting chocolate, creamy caramel, and a bitter hint of hops that tastes of freshly harvested forest herbs. Fürst Wallerstein's Landsknecht strikes the perfect balance between powerful malt and fresh hops. A dry finish completes the experience.
