Each brewery has a flagship beer that represents the team’s brewing skills and the rest of the range. At Rogue Ales, that brew is Dead Guy Ale . This Maibock-style ale has been brewed for nearly 35 years and was one of the first beers the company released. Although this cult brew’s reign continues to this day, in 2023 the brewery decided to make a small range of it. Having a Dead Guy in the range is great, but more is always better, right?
This was followed by the Dead Guy IPA, a classic West Coast India Pale Ale with a powerful 7.0% alcohol content and a massive 69 bitter units. The crisp bitterness is thanks to the Belma, Citra and Mosaic hops, which also contribute a symphony of tropical fruit, citrus and spicy pine resin.
The densely cloudy brew is crowned in the glass with a magnificent cap of fine-pored, creamy ivory foam and smells seductively of pine forest, juicy fruit and light grain. The taste follows the same pattern and gives the taste buds a real explosion of grapefruit, apricot, orange, pine resin, floral hops and subtle caramel. Rogue Ales Dead Guy IPA is resinous, bitter, fruity and extremely drinkable.
