The Budapest-based FIRST Craft Beer brewery spares no expense or effort when it comes to providing its customers with the best, most refined, and most delicious beer experience. Barrel aging has become a popular method of refinement over the past few years, and was also the method of choice for Sancho.
Sancho’s base is a Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout, made from select roasted malts and warming the soul with an alcohol content of 10.5%. What makes this beer special is that it was divided into three batches and aged in different barrels. The separate maturation gave the brewery insight into the aromatics of the various, hand-selected whiskey barrels and their effect on the beer. For the version we have here, a barrel from Woodland Reserve was used, which previously housed a double-oaked bourbon. This fine distillate is characterized by its rich flavor profile, offering notes of vanilla, dark caramel, ripe apples, hazelnut, and warm spices. The apple, spice, and gentle bourbon notes have been transferred to the brew and harmonize beautifully with the richness of the richest roasted malts and their undertones of chocolate, caramel, and freshly baked pastries.
Sancho is an intense masterpiece that has a lot of work in it.
