The city of Paderborn lies on important pilgrimage routes and is deeply rooted in the culture of travel and hiking. The Paderborn brewery cultivates the traditions of its homeland and has dedicated part of its core product range to pilgrimage: The Pilger Landbier (Pilgrim Country Beer) was launched in 2016, creating a beer-based monument to the region’s pilgrims. This easy-drinking classic, with its balanced character and mild aroma, was so well received by customers that it quickly became a crowd favorite. To build on this success, the team has come up with two variations. The Pilger Ur-Radler (Ur-Radler) is a skillful blend of country beer and summery lemonade. And the Pilger Alkoholfrei (Alcohol-Free) is a light-as-a-feather version of the original, which you could even enjoy while on a pilgrimage.
The non-alcoholic brew presents itself in a delicately cloudy chestnut brown in the glass, crowning its appealing appearance with a cap of airy, coarse-pored foam. A fresh nose of grain and meadow herbs entices the first sip. The flavor is composed of soft malt, freshly mown grass, and subtle hops. Malt sweetness, hoppy tartness, and a mild bitterness create a palatable balance that makes the non-alcoholic version of the traditional Pilger a good choice for a snack.
