The Gueuze is a traditional beer style from Belgium that has many followers. The fine beer is characterized by its wonderfully crisp acidity and dry character. To make a gueuze, lambic beers of different ages are blended together and allowed to go through several stages of fermentation.
The Lindemans brewery has mastered this tried and tested technique and has taken it to the extreme with its specialty Oude Gueuze Cuvée René. In a complex process, one third of three-year-old lambic is combined with two-thirds of one-year-old lambic in wooden barrels and stored for maturation. The sugar and the residual yeast from the young lambic are retained until bottling after the maturation process and ensure a second fermentation in the bottle. At the end there is a beer with wonderfully sparkling carbonic acid, a stately head of foam and a round, mature and harmonious taste.
The wonderful beer presents itself in a sparkling gold in the glass and exudes a fine scent of green apples, fruity acidity, spicy yeast and light malt. The first sip reveals a light-footed beer with incomparably complex aromas and great depth. Fruity and sour notes of green apples caress the palate, hints of pear, white grapes and tangy citrus fruit round off the taste experience. The champagne-like character makes the beer a noble pleasure.
