Pumpkin beer is an American tradition that hits the shelves of beverage markets every fall. The spicy vegetables grow in a wide variety of forms and, with their soft sweetness and autumn aroma, go wonderfully with the tart maltiness of an ales. Pumpkin beers come in many different versions: heavy and intense, light as a feather and tangy, strongly flavored and natural.
The Dutch brewers from Gebrouwen door Vrouwen have opted for a middle ground and created a pumpkin ale that is seasoned with cinnamon, star anise and nutmeg and refined with the Columbus hop variety. The seasonal beer specialty was created in collaboration with a friend from Mexico: On a trip through Mexico, Tessel and Do met Gia. The Spanish teacher not only had a passion for drinking the finest beers, but also brewed them in her free time. Enthusiastic about this togetherness, the ladies exchanged their experiences and forged plans. Tessel and Do invited Gia to Amsterdam for the summer and worked with her to develop a real American Pumpkin Ale.
The work of their collaboration flows into the glass in the darkest shade of pumpkin orange and adorns itself with a crown of airy, white foam. A spicy fragrance with hints of caramel tempts you to start drinking. This reveals a silky-soft beer with warm pumpkin notes, which combine on the palate with toffee, cinnamon, nutmeg and a hint of anise to create an autumnal temptation.
