Blueberries are a summer delicacy, but picking them yourself—at least—requires a lot of work. Each individual berry has to be plucked from the bush with nimble fingers. A successful harvest requires a fair amount of luck and skill, and rewards you not only with a basket of deep blue berries but also with a sore back. But the effort is worthwhile: blueberries not only taste heavenly, they are also packed with antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins. We love eating them, but we’re always glad when someone else does the harvesting.
Take Emperor’s Brewery, for example. For their Imperial Porter Mindless Philosopher, a staggering 400 kilograms of blueberries went into the brewing kettle. A blend of European and American berries ensures maximum flavor. These delicate berries are combined with 300 kilograms of cocoa from Colombia and a range of other intensely flavorful ingredients. Demerara sugar adds caramel notes, while lactose and honey lend the beer a smooth sweetness. Vanilla brings an exotic spice, and a robust 12% ABV contributes a fiery warmth.
Mindless Philosopher pours into the glass in the darkest shade of mahogany brown and is adorned with a densely pored hazelnut-brown head. The aromas comprise freshly baked blueberry cake, melt-in-the-mouth chocolate, creamy caramel, spicy blossom honey, and exotic vanilla.
A feast for all the senses!
