An icebreaker is a ship used in frosty regions like Antarctica or Mongolia to break through the ice on bodies of water. Only after an icebreaker has cleared the channel can other ships navigate the river, lake, or sea without risking damage. In a figurative sense, an icebreaker is a technique designed to facilitate conversation and overcome shyness in communication with strangers. Examples of this include introductions where not only the name but also a fun fact about the person is mentioned, or games that help people start a relaxed conversation.
In our opinion, beer is the best icebreaker—at least in informal settings. Beer forces eye contact while toasting, loosens the tongue, provides a good topic of conversation, and creates a cozy bond.
The Moon Lark brewery from Poland knows this only too well and has dedicated a beer to its favorite conversation starter: Icebreaker is a Cold Double IPA that, with a hefty 8.5% ABV, will liven up even the stiffest conversation. This fine tipple is cold-hopped with four different hop varieties from New Zealand and the United States and brings a wealth of fruity, herbal, resinous, and floral hop notes, along with a crisp bitterness, to the table.
