The perfect wave is a dream cherished by surfers all over the world. They dream of a consistently breaking wave that runs in a clear direction, offers enough shoulder for surfing, opens slowly and smoothly, is unaffected by currents or wind, and has just the right height, speed, and energy. Such waves allow for turns and tricks and can be ridden for a particularly long and safe time. In every sea and ocean on the planet, there are spots where the perfect wave occurs more frequently than anywhere else. Surfers flock to these beaches to take advantage of the natural conditions and test their skills.
The city of Giessen plans to become one of these hotspots. Because Hesse is notoriously far from the sea, the Lahnwelle initiative wants to harness the river that winds through Giessen. A so-called standing river wave can be used to create the perfect wave, suitable for both surfing and canoeing. The project is nearing completion and has prominent supporters – including Octobräu, which is raising awareness of the good cause with a beer.
Lahnwelle is a surfer’s ale brewed using the top-fermented method and boasts a light and fluffy 4% alcohol content. This summery brew combines full-bodied grain notes with crisp freshness and a hint of fruit. Delicious!
